Advice for Employers

T Levels are a 2-year Level 3 qualification for 16- to 19-year-olds. Designed with employers, each T Level is equivalent to 3 A levels and helps young people develop the knowledge, attitude and practical skills to progress into skilled employment, an apprenticeship or further study. 

  • Why is the industry placement important?
     

    Every T Level student must complete an industry placement that lasts a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days). This is to provide young people the invaluable opportunity to put their learning, knowledge and skills into practice in a real workplace environment. Industry placements also give employers a unique opportunity to develop new talent and help young people become work ready.

  • How does NKC Dartford College support the process?
     

    • Our students are given pre-employment training sessions to prepare them for the workplace and develop their employability skills. 
    • You will have a dedicated co-ordinator throughout the duration of the 315 hours (45 days). 
    • We set targets for the student to work towards and monitor their progress. 
    • We support you in planning, organising the selection process, arrange review meetings and guide you through the relevant paperwork. 

  • What do you, as employer, need to provide?
     

    • Time to plan the placement and allocate staff time to support and supervise the student. 
    • Provide a safe space for the student to work with the necessary equipment and PPE clothing (where appropriate).  
    • Provide your Employer’s Liability Insurance Certificate to the college and a H&S assessment. 
    • Notify your insurance provider about the placement (where required). 
    • Inform us on the student responsibilities of the placement to ensure that the student gets maximum value from the experience.   
    • Contribution and feedback to three reviews on the student’s performance over the duration of the placement.
