The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. NKC Dartford College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk, creating a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment for everyone.
We follow current government legislation and statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), Working Together to Safeguard Children, and other relevant safeguarding requirements. Our Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk Policy is reviewed annually to ensure it reflects current legislation and best practice.

Who is responsible for safeguarding?
Safeguarding at NKC Dartford College is led by:
- Rhiannon Hughes - Deputy Executive Principal (Teaching, Learning & Improvement) (Senior DSL) – covering all colleges in the NKC Group
- Rachael Moore - Assistant Principal, Teaching, Learning and Student Services (Senior DSL) – covering all colleges in the NKC Group
- Rebecca Skinner - Head of Welfare and Safeguarding (DSL) – covering all colleges in the NKC Group
- Fiona Hassan - Deputy Head of Welfare and Safeguarding (DDSL) – Covering NKC Dartford College and NKC Gravesend College
Together, they promote a strong safeguarding culture across the NKC Group, ensuring that students and staff are supported in a safe learning environment.
The Governor with responsibility for Safeguarding is Joanna Grant.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. All staff are trained to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns, follow the College's safeguarding procedures, and complete regular safeguarding training and updates to keep their knowledge current.

Our curriculum is designed to be broad and relevant, helping learners understand diversity, respect different beliefs and cultures, and develop the confidence to make informed decisions. Through their time at NKC Dartford College, students are supported to understand right from wrong, build their own values, and contribute positively to their communities. Prevent is a national strategy that aims to stop people from becoming involved in terrorism or supporting extremist activity. It forms part of the government’s wider safeguarding approach and focuses on early support for individuals who may be at risk. What does Prevent cover? At NKC Dartford College, Prevent addresses all forms of extremism, including far-right extremism, religious extremism, and other forms of radicalisation. Signs of possible radicalisation Some signs that may indicate someone is at risk include changes in behaviour or mood, expressing extreme views, becoming isolated, or showing increased sympathy towards extremist ideas. How to report a concern If you are worried about someone, it’s important to speak to a member of staff. You can talk to your tutor or contact the Welfare and Safeguarding Team at NKC Dartford College. Raising a concern can help someone access support at an early stage.
